The Trouble With Bs and Ds:
A children's book illustration project.
The trouble with Bs and Ds is my first book projects as an author as well as an illustrator. It tells the story of my experience with dyslexia and I how I worked with the help of amazing teachers to overcome my challenges. In this book there are 2 main characters the Library Fairy as you can see above and the little boy who you can see below. The style aims for a sureal realism and the Library fairy is a complex and detailed character with elaborate paper effects and an insane level of inticacy.
The project is still a work in progress but my publsher is very excited and the book should be published next year. In this book the relationship of the boy to books is really important as he goes from hating books and libraries and bookshops to loving them . So every element of the artwork is related to books and paper. I have created several brushes for scattered paper, i have refined techiniques for painting crumpled paper and I have develed deep into the intricacies of paper colour and lighting. This book is an homage ot books and the wonder that they hold.
The goal of this story both in the text and the artwork is to give those struggling with dyslexia an opportunity to feel seen. To know that other people know what it feels like to go through education with dyslexia. It is also designed to help parents of children with dyslexia understand what their children are going through.
