Jemma and the Mermaids Call: A children's book illustration project published 2023 (client project)
This book was a wonderful project developed for my client Laura VonDracek. It is the story of a mermaid who wakes to see the sun blocked out by garbage cluttering the sea.
My client went had a wonderful vision and knew what she didn't want but it took a fair amount of trial and error working on different looks and styles for the character until we found the real Jemma. It was definitely worth the time.
I am deeply proud of the work I did on this project and also profoundly sad as Laura the author died shortly after the book was published. She was a wonderful spirit and the world is a less beautiful place without her.
